The Tactical Fire Direction System/MSE Interface Device (TACFIRE/MSE ID) is a modem that allows Heavy or Light TACFIRE equipment to communicate over the mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) Circuit Switch or Tactical Packet Network. It will interface with Heavy TACFIRE in Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) mode and Light TACFIRE FSK modes, which operate at baud rates of 600 or 1200. It will process Light Tacfire Digital at 2400 bps.

Provides Forward Error Correction (FEC) to increase reliability of transmission in a high noise environment.

In Tactical Packet Network operation, associated software enables automatic registration of TACFIRE host name with the MSE Tactical Name Server and provides periodic refreshment of registration.

Provides automatic message routing from local host list.

Maintains and updates a Log File of last 600 message transmissions and receptions, acknowledgement status, date and time.
